It is what every other professional told you probably would not be the case. When your child has CP, Autism, Downs Syndrome, or any other obvious physical limitation, lack of intelligence is what is assumed the second a person looks at your child.
Even in children that are, for years, thought to be "mentally retarded" by everyone around them, it is found more and more that they are not. Check out this You Tube video about a girl with Autism.
I wish that these parents had found the Institutes when this young lady was two (or at all). They would have been told at that time that she was smart. They would have been told to talk to her like they would any other very bright child. Now she would be even smarter, because that assumption would have caused them to teach her more.
And remember this very important point. No one taught this girl most of the words she started typing. How many kids with Autism and CP still haven't found their voice?
