Every year during the Christmas season, I spend a lot of time trying to find just the right Christmas present for Noah. Having a very weak grasp and limited mobility in his arms makes finding a present he can actually play with very difficult. And every year I end up purchasing something from
Enabling Devices (click for the link). I have found that they have a great range of "switch" toys (not to be confused with the bag of switches Santa brings to those on the naughty list). They are toys (often the popular toys you can get at the store) that are connected to a big button, or switch, which activates the toy. You may find that their prices are a little higher than the regular store prices, but they do run specials and sales, and around this time of year they usually have a free or reduced switch offer.
They have a lot of other toys as well, including activity centers, adaptive art toys, adapted games and puzzles, and toys that focus on specific fine motor skills. A lot of special education teachers and therapists use this site, but I think it is a great place to get that special kid in your life a toy he or she can really play with on his or her own!
They have a wide range of other interesting products for special needs as well, and you could spend a lot of time browsing.
This is one of Noah's favorites that he got from Santa last year called the mini racer. So glad Santa knows about Enabling Devices!
